Outwell Vermont 7pe Tent
I made a carpet to fit my side extension on my Vermont and also another for my Carolina extension - it could be done for any awning too. I bought a carpet the right colour that would be a bit too big (from whatever Outwell tent that will suit - use the Outwell site showing the plans of the floor measurements for the different tents) and cut it down. I then used the left over edging (which I unpicked) to edge where I had altered the width or length. Custom carpet for whatever extension you like. I did the same with a groundsheet - I customised them to fit under the carpets as well. There is a picture on my Carolina extension review which shows this.
This is my second night using our awning on a Vermont xl and it makes a massive difference to an already excellent tent. Good points are that you can set it up as a kitchen. I will load up photos. The awning is the kitchen, the living area is fantastic with carpet (main tent) and the front bit for bikes shoes and push chairs. The awning is huge and is a living space in its own right. We have a table and chairs set up in it with fridge, hob, food cupboards etc. There is still loads of space. Now the not so good: where it fastens to the main tent there is a gap which let's the wind through. It has no opening Windows and the quality is good but the features are not like the main tent. I would not be without it now but I wonder why its not just the front of a Vermont to fasten on the side of the main tent. I would even like a carpet for it. However find a camp site with plenty of space and you will hear a lot of passing comments on the size of it. Camping at its best but Outwell could do better.
Manufacturer's Description Add extra space to a Vermont P by clipping on a Vermont Side Awning. It perfectly matches the tent and is made from the same Outtex® 5000 fabric and steel pole construction. It also incorporates large tinted panorama windows. The awning has our trademark pre-attached luminous guylines and adjustable pegging points.

We bought our Vermont extension in 2008 to go with the Vermont XL, and what a disappointment, in only a light breeze it was like a sail so we had to take it down after only two days before it ripped apart. The roof part of the extension is just not long enough, this was made for the old M version and has not been adjusted to fit the larger model
My advice is do not use this in windy conditions whatsoever, the straps over the tent made numerous tears/splits in the roof of our tent and the side canopy itself just ripped apart on the side.

We have this side extension and I have to say it was well worth the money! We have just got back from a rainy weekend in Wales and this was brilliant. We were able to sit under the canopy BBQing, relaxing with a glass of wine or two and were perfectly dry. It also assisted with keeping the tent dry at the entrance and the mud out!
Wouldn't be without it. We first put it up it looked a bit of a mess but proved to be invaluable when the rain decided to put in an appearance. We used it as a wet area to take off muddy boots and wet coats before entering the tent and creating a mess in there, also used it as an eating area as cover was invaluable in the sun and rain. Fantastic
The first time we tried to put this up we decided it was going on ebay thinking that it was of no use or ornament! However on a recent trip my OH decided it should be put up so with a few cross words and about 20 mins it was up, and I hate to say it but it was quite useful (we used it as a kitchen/ dining area)making loads more room in the front porch.

I don't know if it's us but the roof of the extension is very saggy and the way it secures over the main tent is far from ideal, looks like a bodge job no matter how well you put it up.
If it blew away tomorrow I don't think we'd replace it however we have been informed that a front extension for a montana will fit the front of our vermont l which would be a much better plan !
Manufacturer's Description Another popular way for campers to upgrade their Vermont P tent. And a perfect match to the Vermont P for colouring and contours. The Side Extension is ideal for additional shelter for those who don’t want a fully enclosed space. As ever, its shape and materials means it fully integrates with the main tent, adding a mere 11kg extra to the overall weight.
