Excellent addition to my tent, I have a big family so I put my bed in the living area and had the kitchen and everything else to fit in my 'bedroom'. Now all that goes in the front leaving a huge area for wardrobes and, of course, my bed. Got it from an ebay shop for £200 brand new, a saving of £150 and it was the best investment I've made for camping
Love this tent - great size , easy to put up with 2 of you and stands up to the british weather brilliantly! have added the extension and also have the sun canopy, only complaint is why did they put the lightest colour at the top - makes it hard for the kids to get to sleep and they do wake up early - however this is generally only an issue the first day, as they are shattered the following evening!:)
This is an amazing addition to our Montana 6 set up. Maybe not if you are just staying for a weekend, but a week or 4 days it doubles your living space and keeps the tent itself completely clutter free. I recommend this to anyone. It has rained every time I have put it up. So great for sitting in. Bathtub style ground sheet is also a great part of it. It keeps the kids from dirtying the carpet in the tent itself.

I have an old Monty and a new awning, consequently the bath tub ground sheet doesn't work but I wouldn't use it anyway. I like a breathable awning carpet where I do the cooking, in case of spillages. I had an extension for many years and wish I had bought the awning instead. It's very easy to put up, I do it on my own while my wife sorts out the interior. I simply can't praise it enough.
There is plenty of room for our two kitchen units and fridge, as well as a clothes airer. Think there will be enough room for our table and stools to have meals in it.
On our first trip the weather wasn't warm enough to open the awning front right up, but the door in the middle opens up quite wide, to allow enough ventilation for cooking.

This awning would be better, as others on here have said, with vents above the windows, the same as in the tent, hence 9/10 rather than full marks. The 2012 6P version, with the panorama front, does have vents, but the front does not open right up, so it looks like we can't win!
Others have also said what a pain it is to get back in the bag, quite agree, it took us two weeks (it was very windy when we took the awning down, so we gave up and tried it later on a nice calm dry day!)
Would still recommend the awning as it provides so much extra space, and keeps the main tent clear for relaxing in the evenings if the weather is being British!

We have previously and happily used a front canopy with our Monty for some years, but having an addition to the family and needing somewhere that he could be fed in bad weather without him getting all manner of muck on the groundsheet of the main tent, we decided to get the front awning for this year's main holidays in July & August.
Although the awning is an extra faff to erect - adding insult to injury after maybe 30 minutes erecting the tent, from the moment you first roll the front of the awning up you realise what a brilliantly versatile addition this is to your Monty. Not only do you have all of the added space (this immediately became our cooking and eating area as well as the little guy's crawling space in bad weather), but you also have a massively more effective shaded area than with the canopy because of the sides, great protection from the wind even when the front is up, an open but really cosy porch for late night drinking/card games etc, somewhere for towels etc to dry even when the weather isn't too settled.Need I go on? The difference the awning made to our camping experience this summer, particularly during poor weather was incredible. I'd have absolutely no problem recommending this awning to any Monty owner, particularly as you can get them online for around £175.00.
We don't use the groundsheet in the awning and stow the front cross-floor retaining tape (sorry couldn't think what else to call it) as pegging the poles makes it largely redundant and as removing it alleviates any tripping hazard. Leaving the groundsheet at home also makes it that bit easier to get the awning back into the bag.
Awning And Extension Buying Guide
Manufacturing quality is up to Outwell's usual high standards and the fit to the tent is snug and as weatherproof as is reasonably necessary (I suppose in theory that hard driven rain in exactly the right direction could penetrate between the awning and tent walls but this would be very unlucky indeed).
Very minor downpoints include that raising the entire front of the awning is a job for two, but you are after all rolling up a very large piece of fabric. Vents, similar to those at the top of the tent walls, would be useful as left closed over night the awning can get quite a lot of condensation on the inside - much more so than the tent itself. Also I can imagine that on less generously proportioned pitches the monty/awning combination would be a tight fit at best as with reasonable front an rear guys we're looking at in excess of ten metres in length.
All in all this has been a really worth while purchase and I'm sure it's going to give us many years of service. Very highly recommended!

We bought this so we could camp for longer than a weekend and to have the extra space I need for my stuff if camping for longer.It easily fits our fridge kitchen dog cage chairs shoes etc definitely worth buying in my opinion.It keeps your tent dry and clean as everything is left in the awning.
Theres only a couple of poles to erect and some snappers the same as on the tent to do it's quick and easy (does help having a tall husband)to put up and take down.Well worth the £170.00 x
Super addition to our Monty as other people have said. We also have all our cooking gear in it and also table and chairs if its warm and sunny we open the front up and if its a bit chilly we close it down. We don't use the bath tub ground sheet though as our tent is a 2007 model and doesnt have the loops for the toggles but saying that I prefer it without as I'm not bothered if the kids spill or if any thing gets dropped. We also have the extension that we bought when we got the tent and on a few occasions this year have had both the awning and extension on wow what a tent it is then.

We purchased the front awning for our 2 week holiday in Yorkshire and are so pleased that we did - it does transform the tent by doubling the living space. It was a wet 2 weeks and we were able to do all our cooking in there -leaving the side canopy as the entrance during the rain. It does add to the kit you have to carry - quite a large bag and quite heavy. As our tent is a 2008 version we could not attach the ground sheet to it.
Getting the tension on the front right was a bit tricky and the front door sagged inwards until we got the knack of it.
This is now our 2nd front awning in two months, the first was faulty, and having just returned from a week in Yorkshire this one is also being returned with 8 holes in it. The awning is a good piece of kit, but to be truthful far too big for the 2/3 night trip. If you are doing more than 2/3 nights and have kids I can see the benefits to needing all the extra room. The same problem with water entering the front door, as it does with the tent, also the front should have zip along the bottom not just velcro. Bad design I'm sorry to say. Other than that it just adds a lot more weight to carry and another 20 mins to erect. I also think that Outwell could have designed a much better system for the bathtub ground sheet, does not do it any justice and is a poor fit, just kept in place by toggles which easily snap off as found in the first one.
